Arthritis
Arthritis, or joint pain or joint disease, is the leading cause of disability in America. More than 50 million adults and 300,000 children are suffering from some type of arthritis. Common symptoms include swelling, pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion. Severe arthritis can result in chronic pain, inability to perform normal day-to-day activities, and has the potential to cause permanent joint damage.
To determine whether or not you may be suffering from arthritis or to determine the severity, your medical professional will perform blood tests and conduct an imaging scan (ie: x-ray, CAT scan or MRI). Eating healthy, staying active, and understanding your type of arthritis and treatment options are crucial to decreasing your discomfort and paving the way for an enjoyable, happy life.
Acne
Acne occurs when the pores in your skin are blocked with oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells that clog your pores. These skin cells, sebum (oily, waxy matter secreted from your glands), dead skin, and hair clump together to plug pores, causing an infection and resulting in inflammation, or a pimple. Acne is not discriminatory, and for most people, pimples and acne start to appear during puberty and last into the early 20s, and in more severe cases, even well into adulthood.

Eczema is a condition that leaves a red, scaly rash when the skin comes into contact with an allergen. It can present in many forms, anywhere on the body, and is one of the most common skin conditions we treat at Bay Natural Medicine. Psoriasis is a chronic disease that is caused by having an overactive immune system and the result of the skin production process moving too quickly. This sped-up process results in inflamed, itchy skin that may be red or scaly in appearance. Psoriasis appears in patches in areas of the skin that are already more difficult to keep moisturized such as your elbows, knees, and scalp. These patches of inflamed, dry skin can last for days or weeks at a time.

Hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) are produced by the thyroid and responsible for the regulation of metabolism and bone growth as well as protein synthesis. About ten million Americans suffer from hypothyroidism, and nearly half don’t know they have it! Disruption in the thyroid hormones is generally caused by one of two things: ongoing inflammation of the thyroid (frequently autoimmune thyroiditis or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis wherein the patient’s immune system causes the inflammation), or hypothyroidism, which is caused by “medical treatments” such as the removal of all or part of the thyroid due to cancer or other medical conditions like goiter.

- Weakness
- Cold intolerance
- Decreased libido
- Trouble remembering things
- Depression
- Irritability
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- Hair loss
- Coarse, dry hair
- Dry, rough, pale skin
- Muscle pain
- Constipation
- Abnormal menstrual cycles
Not every patient will experience all of these symptoms, and they may also vary significantly in severity between individuals. Hypothyroidism can typically be diagnosed by a test known as a thyroid panel that checks the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood.
Although rarely life-threatening, hypothyroidism can benefit from a personalized approach, which may greatly improve a patient’s well-being and overall success with prescribed thyroid replacement therapy. Traditionally, patients have been treated with levothyroxine (synthetic T4), although some patients don’t respond fully to this alone and may also require synthetic T3. This can be problematic though due to the swift absorption of this drug by the body resulting in higher than normal T3 levels creating a myriad of problems including heart palpitations.
For patients who require Natural Thyroid rather than synthetic thyroid replacement, Bay Natural Medicine can help. We can formulate many forms and strengths of Natural Thyroid not available in standard pharmacies. Additionally, we can combine pure T3 and T4 powders to exact strengths for individual needs, eliminating unnecessary additives and unwanted side effects.
